E Type £14K
#1 E Type £14K

Lot 1 £14K Surprised at how little this made, I know it is not the most favoured series or body type and would need a lot of money poured into it but it is still an E type. I was at the viewing day, it condition was poor but at least it was in one piece. I was interested in buying the Mini Cooper S Lot 55 but became less interested as the price increased to £44 K. My second interest was the Batmobile Lot 69 as I thought I could put a a 4 or 5 L engine in it, again at over £6K it was difficult to justify the money.

We are restoring one identical, except it is original RHD, for a client at the moment. I doubt that it will cost him under the equivalent of UKP100k for our work.

Comments like the one made by the auction house do annoy me - they stated it was a wonderful chance to purchase an E Type - ..."even though she is a 2+2" as if being a 2+2 made it a massively inferior product. Some of us like our 2+2s, and bought them from choice. I know they fetch a fair bit less, but there are pluses to them as well.

I'm surprised it made as much as £14k. Non runner, parts missing, requiring UK registration. So much wrong with it. Just look at the mess around the nose and the rear end, and the bits hanging underneath, and the strange nuts and bolts towards the rear end of the floor pan, ripped missing trim, parts from another car.
It'll cost thouands just to get it roadworthy, and when it is, it'll still be a ratter and only be worth £15-20k. And it still wont have a roof!
Now, if the shell is as shot as it looks, then everything else could be taken off, restored and fitted to a Robey shell to make a S1.5 roadster.. That could produce a car worth £100k or more.

A lot to do but for the buyer what's not to like. Manual. No sign of stranglebergs
. Yes she needs a lot of tlc and probably a pot of cash but she will make a great car once sorted. A sensible price if you ask me....

I had a friend at the auction to check it out, his comment was "it was very rough and needs a lot of work"
However, as you say it was still a 14k e-type and we have all seen a lot rougher !

Surprising also, that cars are still turning up, that are not already registered on the xke data site.

Can and should . I remember when XKEData.com had barely reached four figures and it's now an invaluable check for buyers and sellers. There are a few thousand survivors not listed I'm sure, but hopefully everyone here has their E listed...Heuer wrote:Anyone can add data to the site...
