#1 Source of these self-tapping nut-plates anyone ?

Post by rfs1957 » Sat Feb 04, 2017 11:48 am

Having trouble finding these with the correct deep throat.

Image

Easy to find ones with about 3/8" edge-to-centre spacing, but these 5/8" ones were used in many places on my 1962 car and I haven't found a Usual Suspect that has them.

Where do people buy / source these please ?

Seen here, under-dash knee panel fixings, lower edge.

Hi Rory,
If you Google "Bresco-Spire nuts", they have a pretty good selection, various sizes and edge set-backs, I've always found what I needed there......

Hi Rory,
I had exactly the same problem on my 62 FHC with the lower front bulkhead clips and found a supplier here in Melbourne, Australia with the correct items that fit perfectly
The company is Rare Spares web address is http://www.rarespares.net.au and enter NU0002 into the search engine which will bring up the product which is of good quality and zinc plated.

Cheers

Rory, will any of these work?

A great source for hardware, a bit more expensive as they are of aircraft standard, but one advantage of buying your nuts and bolts from them is they come cadmium plated

Thanks to everyone ; Bresco say "deep" but not how deep, the Aero lot stops at 0.50" whereas the Jag one is 5/8", and Melbourne sounds lovely as a last resort !

Have asked Bresco for some sizes, and as SNGB are being super-reactive over the complains aired elsewhere (about clutch-bottles) I'll ask them too ............

No, David, never used him to date - what's the speciality ?

SNGB have them as BD86331 here, and have confirmed the 5/8" throat :

http://www.sngbarratt.com/PartSearchRes ... no=BD86331

Image

These will probably work but are clunkier than the originals at 15mm x 30mm instead of 11.2mm x 24mm, and they are of the U-type instead of the J type, AND they don't self-locate.

Image

Bosco have them here, SNU1561, 5/8" throat confirmed, to suit #8 screws, and the sizes are better ; it is still a "U" type and not a "J" type but, critically, it does appear to have the indent that makes it self-locating :

I'll order some and find out. And have contacted Richard Smith.

Delivered : these supplied by Bresco are indeed as close to identical as matters, self-locating and exactly the same size as the original.
