#1 Spring Clips BD20243
Hi
I will soon be fitting the rails and beading to the boot mats for my 3.8 FHC and need to find a source for the items described as spring clips in the Jaguar parts manual with part number BD20243. These hold the rails onto the boot mat. They are made of brass and are far from spring like but they seem to have done a good job in their time.
I'm not too bothered about getting it exactly right because they won't be visible but I want to keep them looking reasonably authentic and I don't want to use anything that could rust and damage the boot floor. The usual suppliers don't seem to list them and Woolies trim don't seem to list anything similar.
Anybody got any ideas please?
Regards

Speak to BAS, they fit the rails for their complete re-trims so should be able to supply the parts they use. http://www.car-hood.co.uk/e-type

This is one of those things where an assortment comes in handy. If you google "Spire clips" you'll find lots of them. The problem with the assortments is that they are often just the standard size ones, so if you need deep, or wide opening ones it can be a bit hit and miss unless you are able to have a look at the contents (like at stoneleigh or a brick and mortar store).
Bresco is another source for this kind of thing:

Thanks David
I actually bought a complete trim kit from BAS and got them to re-trim the seats for me. The rails were not fitted nor included in the kit, which is interesting.
Anyway, I will contact them. I think they're really good, helpful people and I have a lot of time and respect for them.
Thanks also, JagWaugh (sorry, I don't know your name). Unfortunately, despite the parts manual description, they definitely aren't spring clips. In fact, the last thing they need to be is springy. They are made from brass and are more like 3 legged rivets than spire nuts.

The rails and the rubbers have never been regarded as " trim" and have not been available as an original part for decades . It took me 15 years to find any , S/H , at Stoneleigh. The best thing to do , probably, is to buy the generic lengths of rail which IIRC Holden's sell, and make your own . Not easy I'm afraid, particularly as the "spears" require some delicate cutting and bending to be done , but it is the one practicable way to put them on your car. Steve at BAS fitted mine to the boot mat for me

Thanks for this. I do have the rails (and the rubber insert). I have just dropped them off for a re-chrome this morning. The major suppliers sell them now but they are ridiculously expensive.christopher storey wrote:The rails and the rubbers have never been regarded as " trim" and have not been available as an original part for decades . I might have a word with Steve at Stoneleigh in March. I should have my chroming back by then.

Good luck with it, Stu. Incidentally, a good friend of mine , Nick , lives in Wirswall and has a signal red 2+2 which we have done a number of tours in together. Since he has had it about 25 years and is a perfectionist he is a great source of knowledge and I am sure he would be interested in talking with you . Let me know where you are by PM and I shall try and put you in touch
