Wiring Ser I 4.2 FHC
#1 Wiring Ser I 4.2 FHC
First time using this site, so here goes. I have a RED/yellow wire at the bonnet plug and no corresponding colour code at the bonnet harness. I cannot find this colour code for the bonnet in my copy of the wiring diagram. Does anybody know what this wire might for? It also appears at the dash, but is disconnected. I might add that the new bonnet harness (JL119) has PURPLE/yellow wire for the horns, however the horns on my car are outside the bonnet and the existing engine harness has that wire connected to them. I should have JL120 (bonnet harness w/out horns), but should still be able to use JL119 I hope.

It is for the fog light if fitted...the bonnet plug pin is number 6 and it runs back to the centre console but is not connected. Sounds like someone used it for non std horns. As far as I know the horns were always in the bonnet. One each side in the void under the light scoops. The horns are relay operated with the relay mounted behind the front wheel arch near side very close to the battery.

The horns were also at some stage fitted to the lower part of the picture frame,( or under the radiator , can't remember which ) one at each side ,instead of under the bonnet . Your car may be one of those

Thank you for the response, now know what the mystery wire is for. With regard to the bonnet harness I have ordered the wrong one for my car. I have external horns which means I should have ordered Bonnet Harness JL120 not JL119 which is for the earlier cars with the horns inside the bonnet. Hoping I can still use the harness I ordered. (Part numbers are from SNG Barrett's catalogue.)
