wheel question

Hello guys,
Just an easy question.

Which wheel are these in the pictures?
and which size in your opinion? Simple 8"?

This is 738 EUT, (also was CUT 7) and probably a photo when in the hands of Mike Wright, so there must be plenty of information on this well known and documented Lightweight E Type.
The wheels look like J.A. Pearce Magna wheels originally made of Magnesium alloy.
As for size, various sizes were available, right up to 10 inch wide by 15 inch diameter. There is a 3 page detailed Sales Brochure available to view on-line. Just "Google" for "J.A. Pearce Magna Sales Brochure" and click on the link to "MK1-performance-conversions.co.uk", where they have a link to the JAP Magna sales brochure, where some wheels appear to be available then in aluminium alloy. I don't want to copy it directly here due to potential copyright. The problem with sourcing any such old magnesium racing wheels is they would have to be closely inspected and crack detected as they will be subject to severe deterioration with age.

As Dave says originals would be unusable because the magnesium deteriorates with age. They were going to be reproduced but I don't think anything came of it as the web site is dead and the company disolved:

Wheels in the picture seems to be larger than 8".

I'm not an expert but as far as I know peg drives allow to install wheel up to 8".
Pictures show peg drives were removed so I suspect 9"wheels were installed.

I'm upgrading my 63 car to racing spec.
I already have dunlop wheel but I'm looking for something more attractive (but period correct!) to install.
Any advice is welcome!

See if you can find a set of Wolfrace 'slot' alloys wheels. They were a period fitment as you can see from car 180 in the above photo. Sets of Pearce Magna wheels do occasionally turn up on eBay but you would need to be very circumspect about using them. Ask Norman Dewis - a mag alloy wheel collapsed on the XJ13!

I don't think car 180 in the picture uses wolfrace slot wheels.
I think wheels are magna as 178, just the car is moving.

I agree with you when you talk about magnesium wheel.

If I decide to go for magna I will probably reproduce them from an aluminium block.
Old magnesium is really too dangerous on track.
