Clutch pedal not fully returning

As I continue to work to revive the E from extended slumber, I have the above issue. Last few inches of return travel need some help from my foot. As I prepare to get up close and personal with the master cylinder, is this the most likely source of issue? I know I need to replace the old fluid - would I be wise to just get a new cylinder while I'm in there?

You may need a new pedel return spring, they do snap....fitted in the housing http://www.sngbarratt.com/ProductDetail ... 7934cc&l=7

Whats it like to fit......just another E tyoe job ......whilst your at it thers a similar one on the brake pedal

In other words.... a long awkward job.
Not done it myself, but doesn't it require removal of items on the firewall to gain access to the rod the pedals pivot on?

Hi Geoff....when i done mine i had the whole pedel box out.....cant remember now if you can get the shaft out on its own.....just a matter of getting in there and getting on with it....its not like changing a clutch

Hi Monkey...whats your name......an alternative is to fit an extetnal return spring.....attached to the pedel and up under the dash area......its been done by a few others

Hi, my stage name is Richard. I read about an external return spring on another thread. I will check what the access looks like and review the options. If it is just a return spring that's broken then I'm not so worried. I need to bleed and replace the fluid also, as it's years old.

Did you see my post in the tech section? I have my pedal box out as part of a conversion from LHD to RHD. Predictably, the clutch spring was broken, so I replaced it along with the brake pedal spring. Then I took it off again - it is far too stiff in my opinion. It will make the pedal heavy and felt like it was about to break when fully depressed. Didn't like it one bit. I'm going to rig something else up. If I were you I wouldn't go to all the trouble of replacing that spring, which is not a nice job in situ. Just put a light tension spring on the pedal. The brake pedal spring, incidentally, is fine. Just enough to lift the pedal back up, plus of course it doesn't travel so far. But that clutch spring - I could never live with that!
