broken wiper

Hy all,
Using my wipers last week end the passenger wiper arm felt down.
Looking at the splined shaft, there is a small part missing and the wiper arm can't be secure now.
How could I repair this ?

Easiest option is to drill and tap the centre spindles, drill the end cap of the wiper arm and use stainless screws to hold them in place. If you want to retain the stock system you will need to get a new spindle - not sure if they are available so could mean a complete new rack! You will find you have probably lost the small spring clip in the wiper arm and those are not available so you will have to buy the complete arm if you decide to remain with the clip rather than screw on upgrade.

Angus has done it on his OTS and it works very well and probably what Jaguar should have done.

These are common or garden spindles - they fit hundreds of cars. I would try a Morris Minor one - got to be cheaper than Jaguar spares. When I get a minute I'll measure the spindle on my wife's Minor tourer & see if it's the same size.
Yours has a lump out of it but it looks as though it should still work?

Ignore me - I had forgotten the bit on the back of the shaft, which is totally different.

It won't 'still work' as the chip is exactly where the wiper arm retaining clip sits. You can push an arm on but it will most certainly drop off (with the resultant loss of the unobtainable clip) with any use.

I will ask Angus for some photos and details of his fix.

Well,
I'll ask angus.
I ask myself if it isn't possible to remove this spindle cap, turn it 1/4 turn and refit it with glue ?
I had the chance to don't lose the clip.
The arm fell on the body, I just stopped and my wife recovered it. It happened twice time !
As I thought we were lucky enought for this day, I put the wiper arm into the car...

Seems to me to be another good reason for using Rainx and accepting that the wipers are for display purposes only!!

Sorry guys, hadn't read this. The only solution we have found is to buy the arms that have a posidrive screw in the middle (SNG sell them). The screw goes onto a wedge shaped part of the spline which then tightens onto the spindle. We always use these as once fitted, they are locked into position and can only be removed by unscrewing.

Yes, it is the SNGB upgrade version of the wiper arm which makes it easier than drilling and tapping the spline. SNGB Part number 10079U £15.58 each:


No mods necessary, just push on and tighten the screw. Arm is also adjustable for length and spring tension.

Just for info,
The part number 10079U is for right hand drive.
For left hand drive it's 10080U.
