#1 Horn Push Rod No Negative At Column Output.

Post by glennglenn » Mon Aug 28, 2017 9:38 am

I am having problems with the horn push rod ie I cannot get a negative (series 1 3.8 negative earth) out of the connection when I push the rod into the steering column .
Should the rod be insulated its entire length?
Is there is switch inside the column or is it something simpler?
Any ideas why its not working?
Thanks.

Hi Glenn,

Are you testing without the horn button in place ? If so you shouldn't get anything from it as it needs the horn button in place.

It shouldn't be insulated over entire length - just has insulators top & bottom.

When the horn is pressed the rod makes contact with sprung loaded contact in steering column and in theory should complete the circuit.

With ignition on there should be 12v on the brass rod. Pressing the horn button creates a path to earth causing the horn to sound.

The terminal #23 on the column should will have 12v on it. This connects through a spring loaded nipple and makes contact with the brass rod.
