#1 Series 1.5 2+2 Doors and locks

Post by kgb123 » Sat Sep 23, 2017 1:51 pm

Hi
Have picked up a set of new doors for my 2+2 from Martin Robey. Originals will get restored at some point, but new it is for now.
Is the series 1/1.5 2+2 the only car with a seperate lock. ie, not included as part of the handle?
I've been looking through some pictures and the lock configuration doesnt seem to follow a particular series or model...or is it me not looking properly?
Also as Robey's is now closed can I ask for advice on the replacement doors.
Pink primer door images are original doors, black are replacements.
Obvious difference is no hole for seperate lock arangement. Do I need to cut that in or should MR have a specific door?

Secondly assuming I just need to cut the hole in for the lock arrangement and not exchange these doors, the fit of the handle on the replacement door is poor, locator holes need a bit of filling out. Happy I can do this, but any advice?

Off course the other option is to just go with the standard combination doorhandle/lock. Not sure I want to do that though. I'm not overly bothered about originality as I don't have the original engine, but from what I've read and looked into on this car it could well be an early series 1.5, I've seen references to a 1.25 car! Changing the door lock configuration, might be a compromise too far.

Kevin, on my car ( now sold) new doors had been fitted and these did not have holes for the locks.

As I understand it you cannot use the type of handle with the key in the push button as the link to the lock assembly is different.
In my case a gingerly cut new holes in the doors !

See you Monday

Thanks Tim, thats what I'd thought would be the case. As MR was closed when this afternoon when I realised there was a missing hole, thought I'd ask on here before taking the plunge with a hole cutter.
Cheers and yes see you Monday morning
