#1 Gear lever chrome gaiter bezel

Post by TrevS » Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:08 pm

Hi all

I am trying to locate a new chrome bezel piece that sits on at the top of the gaiter boot. Could someone provide me with a part number or link to a place that sell them as I can't find them on SNG.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Trevor,

I had a job finding one when I fitted a (non standard) leather gaiter to my S1.

The part was not listed under the e -type, but was in the XK-120 catalogue. I have not checked , but presume it is still the case.

A word of warning. The originals had a nylon tapered inner nut to trap the gaiter. The new ones have a brass one. This rattles like crazy against the gear lever, and drives me nuts. I can't face taking the tunnel off again, so have had a bus ticket stuffed down around the gear lever for 8 years. I would think a rubber sleeve or top-hat bushing might do the job better.

Regards,

Rob.

Having a look online I've found 2 different bezels.

The first has is part number BD19728 and has a brass inner nut

The second is from SNG part number BD19728/9 and has a plastic inner nut and appears more curved.

Could someone tell me which shape is correct for my 1967 4.2 series 1?

Thanks

White nylon threaded insert on mine, with a conical male section that seats into a corresponding conical female section inside the chromed bezel. Between these two the leatherette gaiter is gripped. I'm sure it's original as my car has been pretty much unmolested.

Oh and that black thing on the right is all that remains of the rubber gaiter. It was sitting inside the leatherette one and not doing any good obviously.
