All,
Any recommendations for a small jack to carry in the car (S1 4.2 Coupe) for emergency tyre changing use? I don't have an original.. I used to have a small hydraulic jack (vertical piston), but that packed up a while ago.

I bought one of the Porche jacks but find it takes a lot of effort to raise the car. Others don’t seem to have an issue as I think it is popular but it really doesn’t work for me.

Thanks both.
I just want a simple (manual) low profile jack - scissor jack would be fine. I can always make hard wood adapters if necessary. I already have a wooden block permanently attached under the picture frame.

This is what I have in all of my cars. Solely for changing a flat tyre.

I have an electric scissor jack. It fits in the well of the spare wheel, along with the spinner removal tool, and the copper/hide hammer. I also carry two small hardwood pads just in case the flat is discovered when the car is on soft ground.

Mtnjag. Mine doesn’t but by my reckoning I’m a lot younger than you. I take it you haven’t tried one and why would I want to jack the whole side of the car

I do have one and i’m using it in the standard sill jacking point. Of course i felt the same about good enough to jack a Porsche it oughta do a Jag. But find it too high an effort to be acceptable. You may be younger but fee l my physical strength up to normal tasks including maintaining my property in the woods thank you.

I don’t use the Porsche jack or original jacking points day to day but go directly behind the wheels on the solid stuff if/when. I have the long bar too.
If the scissor is extending a lot before moving the car you will feel it more difficult as it extends. Use a block to fill the gap or as Heuer suggested previously (see below). The Porsche option is certainly a big improvement on original. Have you thought about an electric jack, plenty of options out there nowadays. I would certainly consider a more compact modern offering if I was looking again. Good luck in your search for the perfect solution.
