#1 Bearing Choice

Post by Dad » Mon Aug 28, 2023 3:19 pm

I believe it's time to change one of my front bearings (it weirdly overheated and now has play). Before I start filling a shopping cart with stuff from Moss or wherever, are all bearings created equal? Should I automatically assume I should just get one from Moss, or is there more to it?

Any advice on choice of bearing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Be very wary of the ones produced in China.

Thanks Steve. I don't suppose you have a catalogue reference or tech specs?

Pull your bearings and look at the part numbers...or SNGB website...this outer bearing you can see in the photo https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/UK ... c92fab1b5a

Wheel bearings can be purchased in "sets". I believe the E Types are a set 2 and a set 6 for the inner/outer, but check the numbers.

For your front wheel bearing, I would recommend getting a bearing from a reputable brand and made from high-quality materials. You should also make sure that the bearing has the correct tolerance for your application.

I would not recommend getting a bearing from Moss or another supplier unless you are sure that they are selling a high-quality bearing from a reputable brand. There are a number of counterfeit bearings on the market, and these bearings can be dangerous. They can fail prematurely and cause an accident.
