#1 Dynamator install in a 3.8

Post by abowie » Sun Apr 26, 2026 4:57 am

I thought I'd write a little post about installing the Tudor Dynamator in my 3.8 coupe. I'm doing this because it wasn't immediately clear how to do this.

First a word about Tudor. I chose to order the Dynamator from their website, which is in the UK. The price is listed as GBP 199.95, which is the same on their EBay shop.

I enquired if this included VAT, which it does, but they were not willing to discount me the VAT even though I am in Australia. I was vaguely told that the price appears differently if you have a non UK address on checkout; it doesn't.

I ordered one anyway as the postage on their website was less than from eBay, and it duly arrived well packed but without the specifically promised installation instructions. I contacted Tudor by email, and the reply was a link to a diagram on another company's site which was less than helpful.

Fortunately a little Googling turned up this diagram.

I opened the RB340 regulator and removed the 3 coils.

As recommended I soldered in a 40A fuse between the D and B contacts, and I also put in a little skip to take power to the F (for field) coil wire.

Installed, the regulator looks exactly the same as stock, and the Dynamator itself looks pretty much like the original.

All good. It surprised me that I couldn't find instructions for doing this easily.

Hopefully this will save someone else the trouble in the future.
