Horns Location

Hi to all again. Where does the horns go on a S1 FHC 4.2 and what brackets are used to fix them. If you have a picture of them with the brackets would be good as I want to make the brackets if I can.

That is correct UNLESS you have an early 4.2 like mine... the horns were inside the bonnet near the headlights as per the 3.8s.
I am unsure of the transition date for this though but if your wiring loom doesnt have a couple of tails for the horns on the picture frame - then the horns were probably originally inside the bonnet...

I should have them somewhere in my storage, zink plated... if you need quotes.

I have just discovered, that my new jaguar series one bonnet does not come with the original horn brackets spot welded inside the headlight pods. There is a horn bracket listed for the 4.2 but from what has been said above these fit to the picture frames which is not going to be acceptable to me as its non standard. Which bracket is this guys, the one that mounts on the picture frame or the one inside the early cars? Its certainly different to the bracket that was in my old bonnet which is now no doubt been reborn as a washing machine

Hi David. I think these are the same as was on my old bonnet, therefore a 3.8 set up. I could make up something like this and try to bolt it in position using a riv nut I guess as I think the box section it is spotted to is in accessible from behind. What I wanted to try to establish is whether the 4.2 brackets I posted above fit elsewhere inside this aperture or are the picture frame brackets.

Picture frame brackets. The 3.8 horns are very heavy compared to the little ones used on the 4.2's so you will need something pretty substantial. Either get the correct 3.8 brackets (try Hutson's) and bolt them on or make some up.

I will call Andy tomorrow. Seems a shame Jaguar see fit to neglect to put them in at point of manufacture.

Thanks David. I have now managed to purchase a bracket from Andy at Hutsons. Just need to fix it somehow, thinking of trying the new two pack bonding stuff from 3M. They glue cars together with it

Those horns are very heavy you may want to consider some form of mechanical fixing rather than relying on glue. They are also ahead of the suspension so they will be subject to a fair amount of momentum.

Yes. They are heavy. I suppose I will have to fix them some other way as well
