#1 Brake Reservoirs.

Post by eTypeG » Sat Jun 22, 2013 12:19 am

I have noticed some Series 1 eTypes have two brake reservoirs and a clutch reservoir some on the drivers side (RHD) some on the passenger side, some have one brake reservoir and one clutch reservoir. Also the brake servo seems to be interchangeble between the drivers (RHD) side and the passenger's side of the engine bay.?. Can anyone explain what the correct combination should be for a RHD UK 1965 Series 1 4.2 coupe???. :D

Mines a late 64 RHD... so I imagine its the same. There are 2 reservoirs on the drivers side. Outside one is brake fluid, inside one is clutch. This makes the metal pipe fitting a little easier. There is a third reservoir on the passenger side which drops fluid into the master cylinder. There are pictures on my blog but I can pull some out if you want.

Many thanks for your kind words... I am sure you too will have a nice car - it just takes time and patience if your are doing it yourself - or a lot of money if someone else does it for you

To be strictly correct the outside one should be the clutch fluid and the inner one the brakes:

Don't you find it disconcerting that when you press the brake pedal the clutch disengages?

I think brakes are over rated - I try never to use them and merely wave my arms about and shout "coming through"...

Hi,

I'm after some assistance establishing whether my fluid reservoirs are of the correct type for year. My RHD 3.8 OTS was built October 62 and has the 3 square reservoirs on the bulkhead. They don't look like they've ever been changed. On reading Haddock's guide it states that there were 3 different bottle types used, the later cars having the square bottles. However SNG Barratts are only giving the 3 round bottles as the option for my car.

Can anyone confirm if these are correct for my car ?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Thanks David.

In that case they're correct. I'm hoping to salvage the existing bottles as I have read about all the issues with the repros. The lids are not salvageable though so I need to replace them. I have seen a number of different options on the lids / senders. Some have a wide aluminium tube beneath & some a thin plastic tube. Mine were originally a needle & float. Which are the ones to go for ?

My OTS is June 64 so a very late 3.8. It has the same as yours.

Thanks David but I'm confused as to the correct tube (ali vs plastic) see below links:

Second one is correct and genuine Jaguar it seems - snap it up (because the repro's will snap)!
