#1 Luggage strips in S1 4.2 Coupe

Post by Michaelg » Sat Jun 03, 2017 5:12 pm

Does any one know whether the luggage strips in an S1 1966 4.2 Coupe should be be pointed at the ends, or straight?

I've seen both. Suffolk and Turley certainly seem to produce pointed ends.

Many thanks for the replies. I thought as much. Now to convince my trimmer who should know better...

Not sure that's correct.

I have pointed ones in my 3.8 coupe, but my June 1967 4.2 coupe has squared ones.
When was the changeover?

All I can see is a big white box with some random parts in it  The FHC in the Factory Fit thread is a Jan 1966 car so at least pointy until then. A case of checking XKEdata photos and see if you can find a changeover point. But as the OP has '66 car I would say pointy is correct.

Thanks Andrew and David. I'll do a bit more research before chiding the trimmers. It is a December 1966 car.

From comparing the various photos on XKE Data (thank you David fror pointing me in that direction) it does seem that there was a change from pointy to square between May and July 1966. Problem solved I think. Thanks to you both.

You can see the square ends on the foldy uppy thing.

And yes; a few bits of MGA I think..
